Erich was last in Tasmania 12 years ago. Having got a cousin living there we decided to add it into our trip and spend a week there. I was not sure what to expect, and both Erich and his cousin said its like being in a country 20 years behind anywhere else. We are sat in Hobart airport waiting to fly back to Sydney as I write this and at the end of the week here in Tasmania I can say it’s a real treasure and loved every minute!
We arrived in Launceston airport (after a bumpy flight in a prop plane) to pick up our huge hire car. Sadly another Hyundai and this time a big cumbersome suv with a tiny boot. We packed our stuff in and set off to Penguin to stay with Erichs cousin. The weather forecast was grim for the entire week but we were surprised with some sunshine so stopped in Devonport for a walk and some chips.
We continued to Penguin to receive a wonder welcome and a lovely stay with Erichs cousin in their relaxing home. Again another house we got to stay in which had beautiful views to the sea to admire over breakfast and dinner. Dinner was a wonderful fish and some local wine from an area we were to visit later on.
The next day we headed out for a walk. A hot fish chowder to get us going and ensure we can tackle the hail, rain, sunshine cycle of weather. We were walking up “the Nut” which is a very steal zig zag climb to the top where you are welcomed by fantastic views and local wildlife and wallabies
We did tours around the north west of Tazmania to Stanley, Harbour beach etc. Surrounded by poppy fields and beautiful roses. The weather did not detour us and it was a wonderful day especially with a local to show us the highlights.
After two days we left Erichs cousin and continued on an adventurous drive to St Helens. Erich has decided that the Tazzy weather forecast is a lie, as every day but one has been glorious sunshine and shorts and flip flop weather!
